Making Of: Color Clash

This amazing beauty shot of our model Belle is part of a project we are currently working on. We thought it might be interesting to share some behind the scene material with you. So take a look…

Currently, DomQuichotte is working on a new project, for which he needed a couple of beauty shots. Happily, at this moment, L’Oréal is having their first online contest for make-up artists (The Brush Contest. Theme: Color Clash). They are looking for the most talented artists within 13 countries, and announced 100,000 EUR and the title L’Oréal Paris Makeup Designer as a trophy. Reasons enough for our make-up Artist Johanna Rosskamp to create a time lapse of her make-up for our beauty shot. Here it is! (If the Videos not working, check it out on Youtube:

After Johanna created this amazing hair and make-up design, which took about 25 minutes for the make-up and another 20 minutes for the hair – which she colored with hair chalk – we wanted to really accentuate the color clash in the photo. So we used a blue color gel in front of the main strobe and two strip light with a grid from both sides (check out the image we rendered with set.a.light 3D). To make the skin shine, we also used a body glitter spray. For the retouching, we used our free  frequency separation action and the techniques shown in our  Skin Retouching Tutorial.

The photograph is created with the Sony Alpha 7R and a the Sony 55mm/f1,8 Lens: ISO 100, 1/160 and f 16.

Light Setup for Color Clash

Of course, we also created some other pictures of Belle, with different light settings. Here are the results.
